Training Manual Chapter 1 14/08/2002 2 Representation of Safety Committee and Safety Officer   Chapter 1 : Introduction Training Manual Prepared by : Superintendent (Q S) Approved by : President Revision : 2 Effective Date : 14 August, 2002 Page : 1 of 1 CHAPTER 1 : INTRODUCTION Training programmes on board ship are required to be conducted to ensure that very crew maember becomes sufficiently familiar with the designs, construction, equipment and operational system of the ship so that in normal operations as well as in emergencies, he will always take the correct action. The motto being “DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME AND EVERY TIME” A “Safety Committee” is established on each ship with following tasks:- i) To deal with matters relevant to safety and pollution prevention on board including training on board ii) To deal with various emergency situations that may occur on board the ship and decide what action may be taken to cope with emergency. The Safety Committee should include the Master, Safety Officer and atleast one representative from Officer and crew. The Safety Officer will be nominated by the Master and to be informed to Company The Shipboard Safety Committee will meet when deemed necessary but at least once very month.
