Paragraph Structure A paragraph normally consists of three parts: a topic sentence → supporting details → a concluding sentence (transitional sentences) How to write a topic sentence? A paragraph consists of a group of sentences supporting a controlling idea expressed by a topic sentence, which is the main idea or the most important statement in the paragraph. In other words, the topic sentence tells us what the whole paragraph is about. ---Two reminders to keep in mind when writing a topic sentence 1.
