狭义的生物工程指“生物技术”或“生物工艺学”，包括细胞工程、基因工程、蛋白质工程和酶工程。其中细胞工程的主要内容是细胞融合和核移植，向下可分为染色体工程、染色体组工程、细胞质工程等。狭义生物工程的核心是分子生物学技术。[1] 广义的生物工程包含以非生命物质为对象的分子水 平工程，如发酵工程、酶工程等；以生物为对象的生物医学工程、农业工程、细胞工程、基因工程等；甚至仿生学也可列入生物工程的范畴。按照结构水平来划分， 有分子水平的酶工程、蛋白质工程、基因工程，有细胞水平的细胞工程，有群体水平的农业工程中的大部分内容。其中生物医学工程领域包括生物信息的检测与分析 （生物医学仪器的研究与开发）、康复医学（人工器官）、基础生物医学工程（物理因素对机体的作用、生物力学、生物医学材料学、生物控制论等）。 * 工程的待遇一般较高 Heinz Wolff (born 29 April 1928) FIEE. The family arrived on the day World War II broke out. After school at the City of Oxford High School for Boys[2] he worked at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford and at the Pneumoconiosis Research Unit near Cardiff, before going on to University College London, where he gained a first class honours degree in Physiology and Physics. He spent much of his early career in bioengineering, a term which he himself coined in 1954[3] to take account of then recent advances in physiology. He became an honorary member of the European Space Agency in 1975, and in 1983 he founded the Brunel Institute for Bioengineering, which is involved in biological research during weightless space-flight. Wolff was the scientific director and co-founder of Project Juno, the private British-Soviet joint venture which sent Helen Sharman to the Mir space station. A familiar face in the 1970s and early 1980s, well known to British TV audiences for his bow tie and pronounced German accent, his best remembered programme is probably The Great Egg Race. He was also the presenter of Great Experiments, and presenter/judge of the annual Young Scientist of the Year series. Professor Wolff was one of the first people to be interviewed by Ali G, during that characters initial appearances on The 11 OClock Show.
