Introduction of the Great Tang ? The Tang Dynasty was an imperial dynasty of China. With its capital at Changan, it was the most popular city in the world, being regarded as a high point in Chinese civilization. With its large population base, the dynasty was able to raise professional and conscripted armies to contend with nomadic powers in dominating Inner Asia and the lucrative trade routes along the Silk Road. The Tang Dynasty was largely a period of progress and stability. Chinese culture flourished and further matured during the Tang era. Buddhism became a major influence in Chinese culture, with native Chinese sects gaining prominence. * * Openness is the symbol of dignity. The prosperous Tang Dynasty best exemplifies the open and inclusive spirit of Chinese. Tang absorbs elements from all cultures that it comes into contact with, leading to prosperity in all aspects of social life. The openness of the foreign policy 8. The openness of the marriage. The Tang Dynasty was a golden age for the Chinese arts. Landscape painting and bronze sculpture (Tang horses) were perfected. Ideas and art flowed into China on the Silk Road along with commercial goods during the Tang period. Art produced in China at this time reveals influences from Persia, India, Mongolia, Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East. Tang sculptures combined the sensuality of Indian and Persian art and the strength of the Tang empire itself. Proto-porcelain evolved during the Tang dynasty. It was made by mixing clay with quartz and the mineral feldspar to make a hard, smooth-surfaced vessel. Feldspar was mixed with small amounts of iron to produce an olive-green glaze. The Tang Dynasty maintained a civil service system by drafting officials through standardized examinations and recommendations to office. Fo
