From then on, the ghost of the baby remained in the house and it even returned to the real world. At the end, Denver help the mother drive away Beloved[1].This book’s uniqueness relies not only on the topic of slavery, the relationship between the white and the black, but also on the combination of unique African culture, customs and the mainstream of American culture. Toni Morrison creates many successful characters in the book, like Baby Suggs, Sethe and Paul D, and this paper will mainly focus on the analyses on three main female characters------Baby Suggs, Sethe and Denver, as well as the identity of Beloved.Baby-----the grandmotherBaby spends 60 years of her life being a slave and ten years as a free woman at the cost of her son’s freedom. As a slave, she suffers a lot and loses a lot. First of all, she cannot love her kids as a mother. In her master’s eyes, she is just a machine to produce more black babies who are also properties in the white man’s eyes.
