It must be followed before employees perform any service or maintenance to ensure there will be no unexpected activation or release of stored energy that could cause injury. 2.0 SCOPE 2.1 This procedure covers the requirements for the service, maintenance, repair, renovation or installation activities where unexpected energize or start up of equipment, or release of stored energy could cause injury. 2.2 This procedure also applies to production operations to remove or bypass a guard or safety device, or place any part of the body in the danger zone with potential exposure to the releases of hazardous energy. 2.3 Exceptions: 2.3.1 NORMAL PRODUCTION OPERATIONS where the employee is not required to remove or bypass guards or safety devices nor to place any part of his/her body into a danger area during the equipment operating cycle. 2.3.2 MINOR servicing and maintenance if they are routine, repetitive, and integral to the use of equipment for production AND if the work is performed using alternative protective measures which ensure employee safety. 2.3.3 Work on PLUG AND CORD connected electrical equipment for which exposure to unexpected start-up can be controlled by unplugging the equipment from the energy source and keeping the plug under exclusive control of the employee performing
