Normandy campaign was one most important military operations during the Second World War that turned the disadvantages of the Allied troops. Armored warfare was one important theme of the campaign. In this campaign, British and American tanks and armored vehicles fought against German ones. A most common rumor would be that German tanks, during the campaign, were unstoppable and much stronger than the allied ones and British armored vehicles were described as ‘particularly weak’ and this is often proved by the famous battle of Bocage in which a single German ‘Tiger’ tank hunted 28 British targets and the astonishing exchange rate between German and British armored troops. Therefore, it was concluded that in the western front, the German armored troop was the tier 1 armored troop, American armored troop, tier 2 and British armored troop, tier 3. However, historical documents would prove that during the campaign British armored troops were the truly performed much better than what people have thought, better than the Americans, even the Germans.To investigate the performance of British armored troops, we must take account of tanks ,tankers and how their tactics and strategies are conducted. A tank is the combination of fire power, the gun; defense, the armor and mobility. One factor that was emphasized during the campaign, would be the gun.
