As far as I am concerned, independence is one of the most significant qualities, which is beneficial to both study and work. Firstly, independent students are more likely to become self-motivating learners. Students from a large state university participated in a survey on the effect of independence on perceptions of obligation. Results indicated that independence was associated with intrinsic motivation, one major factor for success. If you are an independent learner, you will be motivated to learn, manage your own study and reflect on your learning. Intrinsic motivation will enable you to become a successful learner and provide you with insight into your learning achievements, which will enhance your motivation to continue learning. Secondly, being independent in work will bring great achievement. Taking self-employment as an example, it is shown that the self-employed derive more motivation from their work than people employed by an organization, irrespective of income gained or hours worked. Independent people are more likely to focus on intrinsic effective reinforcers and internal controllable attributions for their success. They set goals and persist at tasks related to those goals.Whats more, it goes without saying that being independent helps young people to better understand the people around them and the world as a whole. They can gather much more valuable social experience for their future life and career. Moreover, living on their own enable the young people to face and overcome difficulties by themselves, which isnt an easy undertaking.Because of this, independence helps young people adapt to the real society. Sooner or later they will have to leave school and pursue their own career. They have to make their choice and cope with all the problems that they encounter in life
