The Five Zang-Organ The five zang-organs is a general term for the heart, lungs, spleen, liver and kidneys,among which the heart is the dominant one. Therefore it is said in Su Wen that the heart isthe monarch organ.” The heart is situated in the thorax，above the diaphragm, and enveloped by the pericar-dium. Its meridian connects with the small intestine to which it is internally and externally re-lated. The main physiological functions of the heart are to control the blood and vessels andgovern the mind. It opens into the tongue, manifests its conditions on the face and associatswith joy in emotions and sweat in fluids. The blood circulating in the vessels in the whole body depends on the propelling actionof the heart to nourish and moisten the body.
