Henan Overview Henan province is located in the eastern central of China, boarding Anhui, Shandong province to the east, Hebei, Shanxi province to the north, Shanxi province to the west and Hubei province to the south. As in the middle east of China, in the ancient China, Henan was both the business hub and transportation hub. As most part of the province lies to the south of the Yellow River, which runs for over 700 km through its territory, it was given the name Henan (River South). Henan province covers an area of 167,000 sq km and it is the most populous province in China, with a population of 97,680,000 by the end of 2006. Henan province currently administrates 17 cities, 21 county-level cities, 89 counties, 48 city-governed districts and 1 city direct under governing, namely Zhengzhou city, Kaifeng city, Luoyang city, Pingdingshan city, Anyang city, Hebi city, Xinxiang city, Jiaozuo city, Poyang city, Xuchang city, Luohe city, Sanmenxia city, Nanyang city, Shangqiu city, Xinyang city, Zhoukou city and Zhumadian) Location of Henan Source: DTZ Valuation and Advisory Services  Transportation Airports - Air transportation plays an important role in Henan for economic ties and relationship. The whole province currently has three airports, namely Zhengzhou Xinzheng international airport, Luoyang airport and Nanyang airport. Zhengzhou Xinzheng international airport is operating in 43 airlines , connecting 46 cities. In 2005 total of 2.97 million flight passengers were recorded, while the amount of airfreights reached 45,000 tons. Inland Tranportation - Four rivers run across Henan, the the Yellow River （黄河）, Hanshui River （漢水）, Huaihe （淮河）and Weihe （衛河）, with the Huaihe River valley covering up 53% of the province. Inland transportation serves as an important transportation route to the inland of China. Henan inland water transport mileage reaches to 1,439 km by the end of 2005.
