Conceptual Metaphor （概念隐喻） and Conceptual Metonymy （概念转喻） Metaphor/Metonymy is expressed and realized through concepts(ideas). Metaphor and its operational mechanism. The definition of metaphor is defined as understanding one conceptual/cognitive domain in terms of another conceptual/ cognitive domain (P.249) Metaphor is not only an issue of linguistics, but also a pattern of thinking. Metaphor is concerned with the similarity relationship between two things(can be concrete as well as abstract) that are seemingly irrelevant. The realization of a metaphor involves conceptualization of what one is thinking metaphorically. i.e. to create a sentence/ utterance that represents the metaphorical relationship between two different things that one intends to compare. e.g. (1) Life is a journey. (2) Life is a stage. (3) Life is gambling. (4) Life is adventure. (5) Life is eating and drinking. (6)… (7)… (8)… (9)… . .
