LA: Loudspeaker announcer in the airport. Narrator Act 1 (The scene is set in Erics’ house. Jenny is sitting in the sofa with low spirits. Britney is watching cartoon in another room. Eric is just back home from work.) Eric (taking off his jacket): Hi, Jenny. I’m back.. (Jenny says nothing indifferently.) (Eric is a little surprised) Oh. Is the supper ready? Jenny (coldly): No. Eric (gently walking towards to Jenny and sits beside her): Okay, Jenny. What’s wrong with you? Jenny(pause for a while): I just feel very tired. I… Eric: Then get some rest, Jenny. Jenny (impatiently): No, er…I mean I feel tired of my life here. I want to change… Eric ( surprisedly and curiously ): What has happened ? Did you meet anybody today? Jenny : No. I just feel that I have not lived happily and decently since I married you. (pause for a while) Just look at this small house we are living in! Old and shabby! Also, it is very far from my workplace. I have to get up very early every morning to catch the crowded and stuffy subway to work ,(pause, then more loudly) for these seven years! ( nearly loses her voice) Seven years! (Jenny buries her head in her hands and sobs.) Eric (weakly and calmly): I’m sorry, Jenny. (pause) But everything will go better. I promise you, I will make you live a better life. Jenny: You had promised me that before we married. It is always easier to make a promise, (look up to Eric coldly) than to carry out it, isn’t it? Eric: There is a good chance that I will be promoted and get a higher salary. Jenny, you should trust me. Please. (Eric puts his arm around Jenny and gently strokes her head with his hand.) Jenny (unhappily): Eric, (Sigh) I’m sorry, but I think we have to get separated, maybe for some time. Eric (astonished): Wait! Wait! Are you kidding me? Jenny: No, I’m serious.
