Teaching aims :
1) try to understand the four passages in unit 1 of step by step 2000 finish the exercises. ( key words, numbers, main idea)
2) focus on the listening strategy : how to get main idea.
Introduce other listening skills ( take notes/ practice numbers, find how is it being said/ make use of signals and fillers, pause, intonation, pitch, long gaps, let things go, tolerate vagueness.
3) survey the listening difficulties of the students.
4) repeat the main idea of unit I in family Albums.
Warming up
introduction : name, department, views on English listening and difficulties.( arrange on seats)
what difficulties do you have in English listening comprehension?
a. can’t catch up the speed of the speakers
can’t review and look for the dictionary during the listening.
Unfamiliar accent,
Disturbed by the noise and media --inattention and anxiety //affective factors
lack of background knowledge ( including knowledge of the world, knowledge of syntax, knowledge of text type, etc.), lack of vocabulary ,
in fact there are some Active characters: common words, pause, repetition ,explanation. Guess the meaning according to the intonation and facial expression.
listening is a quite complicated , psychological process. May be it is most difficult for the students among the four skills Compare our brains to a computer. It is a process: Input ( understanding) store in working memory long memory . the real difficulties for most of the students not to understand the meaning of every words, but try to get the main idea of the passages, the opinion and views of the author and try to get the details information such as time, place and number. In order to overcome the difficulties in listening, It needs your attention and active information processing first.
Summary : it is true that “ practice makes perfect”, but we need to examine the way learners conduct their listening practice and the belief they hold towards the listening process. Comprehension difficulty in listeni
