The book is suitable for self-study and for classroom study. It is important that every week everyone prepares the lesson for the following week, listens to the CD and tries to do the exercises. In class we will review the exercises and do the speaking activities described in the book. There are 24 units in the book. This term we will study units 1-12. That means an average of two units in three weeks. Participation The final score will be based on midterm exam (30%), final exam (40%), attendance and participation (30%). Scores for attendance and participation will be put together into one score, the maximum score is 30 points. At the beginning of the term everyone has 30 points, but you can lose points (max. 2 for a 90 min. class) if you do not participate in a positive way, for example: miss a class (with or without asking for leave) being late for class ‘forget’ to bring your book Participation leaving the classroom during the lesson not concentrating on the lesson (but on your cell phone, other study material, neighbours, etc.) reading a transcript during listening exercises speaking (mostly) Chinese during group discussions or pair work not doing homework, not being able to use or explain the new words of last week’s lesson Exams Final exam: week 19 Midterm exam: Instead of a midterm exam every stude
