The students learn to use: be fit for; fit; if…, …will…; hear about; standing room, etc. 3. Arouse the students’ awareness of protecting environment. Difficult Parts: Discussions Related Software: Powerpoint, STHVCD, VirtualDrive, IE. Teaching procedures: I. Presentation: Ask students if they like to go out by bicycle. Say riding a bicycle is helping fight air pollution. Then talk about different kinds of pollutions(air, water, light, radiation, population, etc). Discussion in pairs: Why do we have air pollution and water pollution? Then ask a few pairs to report their discussion. Tell the students that people are trying to reduce pollution. Sometimes people get together to discuss how to fight pollution. And Jackie is one of these people. He has just been to a conference, and now he is talking to Yang Pei about the conference. II. Lesson 33/Dialogue: Let the students watch the video of the dialogue and answer this question: What did they discuss at the conference?(the damage to the earth; agriculture; nuclear waste, radiation, population, and so on) Let the students read the dialogue, paying special attention to the following sentences, and then answer the following questions: ●Sentences: It’s a good idea to hold such conferences. I agree with you. Yes, it certainly is. That’s quite true. If we go on polluting the world, it won’t be fit for us to live in. ●Questions: Why was the conference called “Saving the earth”? (It was about the damage that is being caused to the world.) What did Jackie do at the meeting? (He listened to lectures about pollution, agriculture, nuclear waste and radiation and talk about the increase in the world’s population.) What did Yang Pei think of to hold such a conference? (It’s a good idea to hold such conference.
