The method of mass-exchange network with multiple impurities deficit diagram needs iterative calculation. To overcome this shortcoming, this paper present an improved method. Firstly, all the impurity concentrations of a source or a sink should be multiplied. Then, rank the product, and define the order as the overall merit index R. Rank the sinks and sources in the order of increasing R, respectively. For all impurities, construct impurity profiles and the impurity deficit diagram. Finally, the pinch and the minimum utility consumption can be obtained. The improved method can avoid the iterative calculation and increase computational efficiency. The case studies of a hydrogen network and a water allocation network are analyzed by using the improved method in this paper.
