First, the researcher examines how media use in a developing democracy may be associated with higher levels of individual political knowledge and participation. Secondly, the author explores how media use may also be associated with democratic consolidation at a more macro level. The realities of a media environment are people devote a significant amount of time in viewing television, reading online news, watching movies, surfing the internet, and playing video games, either independently or in some combination in everyday life. The major media chosen for this research are broadcasting (i.e., radio, television, and cable), print (i.e., magazines and newspapers), and human communication device, personal computer linked in a network. The research method combines questionnaire survey for college students in both Taiwan and Macau in 2006 and a secondary data of nationwide survey in Macau released in 2002 and Taiwan surveyed in 2003 for answering the research questions. The finding reports media ownership/use and political information flow supported by certain media. A number of significant trends such as students in Macau are comparatively involving less in political activity and having less interest or motivation in political discussion.
