六、冠词的基本用法 定冠词与不定冠词 英语有两种冠词，一为定冠词the, 一为不定冠词a或an。 定冠词the 一般读作 /e?/, 在元音前读 /ei/，特别强调时读 / ei : / : Give me the /e?/ book, please. Who is the /ei/ old man over there? She’s the /e?/ most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen. Shakespeare is the / ei : / greatest dramatist in the world. the 最早是指示形容词，意思接近this, that, 因此在不少情况下仍可译作“这”，“那”（如上面例句中的“这张画”，“那位老人”），不过他的意思比this, that 要弱一些，因此，在多数情况下都不译出。 不定冠词a 和an 的基本意思是“一个”，在不少情况下也也译成“一”或“每”： She’s a friend of mine. He drove the car 70 kms an hour. They paid him $ 100 a month. I go home a month. 在译文中，“一个”这类词有时说不出来： I’m a teacher and my husband is an editor.
