Inaugural speech requires that speakers should possess good psychological quality and higher language level. Therefore, inaugural speech not only expresses the reality, but also has a strong appeal, in which the qualifiers undoubtedly play a vital role among all means of grammar. Through the analysis of seven classical inaugural speeches and listing histograms, this thesis analyzes the frequency of using adverbs in the inaugural speech. Key words: adverbs;inaugural speech;manner adverb; degree adverb;stress adverb 1．Introduction The primary function of the inaugural speech is to implement the self-promotion by the way of arguing by reasoning. As an active and contagious inaugural speech, the research on characteristics of its language analysis piles out one after another, relatively speaking, the research on a certain part of speech in the inaugural speech has received enough attention. The corpus of this paper is selected from U.S. presidentrsquo;s inaugural speech of all previous years.
