In this paper, the modification of titanium dioxide particles by alumina was studied. The surface composites and structures of the modified particles were characterized by XPS, XRD and FT-IR. The dispersibility and electrophoretic mobility of the modified TiO2 particles in tetrachlorethylene were investigated by laser particle size analyzer, settlement experiments and electrophoretic instrument. The effects of modification conditions, such as the temperature, pH value and stirring rate, on the dispersibility and the charge property of the modified TiO2 were discussed. The results indicate that the settle time of modified TiO2 can last 120h with the response time of 35s if the modification is conducted under the optimized conditions, such as temperature is 8
