With the large increase of university laboratory equipment variety, quantity and workload management, some problems existing in the management of laboratory fully exposed. XY university is an engineering based, multidisciplinary coordinated development of the national 211 Project key university, along with the continuous investment in higher education, the rapid development in recent years of school, has achieved remarkable results. But the XY still exist many problems to be solved in university. Especially the continuous input of the national special fund, the school bought a large amount of equipment, but such as equipment repeat purchase, the equipment utilization rate is low, no special management, equipment sharing mechanism is not sound and the other problems still exist. Therefore it is necessary to study the status of equipment management strategy and improvement of XY University, XY university is helpful to explore a new management mode suitable for the development of schools. This paper present the instrument and equipment management of XY University were analyzed. Analysis consider the procurement mode is implemented, the low utilization rate of equipment, equipment use efficiency is low. By SWOT on the equipment management in XY Universitys analysis found that, XY University Instrument and equipment and advanced scientific research and experimental platform, technical service ability, but the XY university equipment management industry weakness, respectively is the lack of information platform, management needs to be improved, at the same time facing the external opportunities is the rapid development of peer cooperation and information process widely the main threat, is insufficien
