Translation Tactic Unit Four Diction and Extended, Commendatory and Derogative Meaning in Translation Polysemous words, polysemy By “diction” we mean the proper choice of words and phrases in translation on the basis of accurate comprehension of the original. In English most words are polysemous words. That is to say they are polysemants. A word can be used in five, ten or even more senses, depending on the different collocations or contexts. Words also have extended meanings. Which of them is the most proper one in translation, diction is required 二、Diction Extended Expressing the specific with the abstract or vise-versa 三.
