Method of Moments Analysis for Wire Antennas CONTENTS Introduction Fundamentals Two-Potential Integral Equation Pocklington Integral Equation Richmond Integral Equation Hallen Integral Equation Schelkunoff Integral Equation Reaction Integral Equation I. introduction Wire antennas are widely used in various application areas in which the working frequency is not very high. Radius of each wire is assumed to be much smaller than the length of the wire and than the working wavelength as well. As a result of the above assumption, the circumferential component of the current on the wire is negligible. Wire antennas are tackled by employing the method of moments in conjunction with integral equation of various forms. Different integral equations are very different in form, but they are the same in basic theory and starting point. For the same problem, the method-of-moments analysis in conjunction with different integral equations will lead to different formulas but the final calculated results should be the same. Each integral equation has its strong points and weak points, and a proper choice of integral equation must be made in advance according to the practical needs. The basic formulation for analyzing wire antennas by means of the method of moments is also suitable for analyzing wire scatterers, since the distinction between antennas and scatterers is primarily that of the location of source. If the source is on the object it is considered an antenna; if the source is distant from the object it is viewed as a scatterer. Hence, by analyzing the object in an arbitrary impressed field, we are effectively considering both cases at once. The integral equations introduced in the notes are obtained mostly by considering the wire structures, and nevertheless these integral equations so derived are easily extended to the surface or volume problems. The lecture notes have provided with a self-contained material for a method of moments analysis approach to wire antenna proble
