Holden wants to retain a child’s innocence, but is ultimately driven crazy by insincerity, phoniness and callousness of the adult world. This paper attempts to make an analysis of the character conflicts of Holden and to find the reasons—including the exterior reasons and the interior reasons--of his character formation, ultimately getting a better understanding of Holden’s failure.
