The King’s Church Pilgrims Didn’t want to go to the same church. “You can get out of jail, but you have to leave England.” The Pilgrims didn’t change their minds, and the King made a compromise. In 1620, therefore, 102 pilgrims set sail for America on a ship called the “Mayflower”. Plymouth Massachusetts Plymouth England Tough Journey When they got to America, it was winter and there were no food or houses. The majority of the pilgrims died from sickness, starvation and freezing to death. Kind Indians: People who lived in America already. They offered help to the suffering Pilgrims. Hunting fishing Planting corn pumpkins Building houses out of trees Winter came again, things were better. The fields produced a rich yield. The Pilgrims had food and a place to live. They decided to celebrate, inviting their friends, the Indians. Then there came a great feast which lasted for a whole week. They also played games together.
