SECTION SECTION Repair: Exhalation Compartment 13 13 The exhalation compartment may be either a bottom-loading or a front-loading configuration. Either configuration may have an internal exhalation valve within this compartment or an external valve as part of the patient tubing circuit. This section includes removal and installation procedures for the exhalation compartment assembly. Before repairing the exhalation compartment assembly, familiarize yourself with the warnings, cautions, and general repair instructions in Section 8. Warning To prevent personal injury and equipment or property damage, ensure that electrical power sources and pneumatic sources are disconnected from the ventilator before servicing. 13.1 Exhalation Bacteria Filter The exhalation filter helps prevent bacteria that may be present in the exhaled gas from being vented to room air. It also reduces cross-contamination of the ventilator. A Puritan Bennett filter captures particles as small as 0.3 µm at a flow of 100 lpm with 99.97% efficiency. Caution Always follow recommended procedures for maintaining the exhalation filter (Section 4) and removing moisture from the patient circuit. Debris or moisture contacting the Q3/T3 sensing element may destroy Q3/T3. 13.1.1 In Bottom-Loading Exhalation Compartment Remove the exhalation bacteria filter from the
