To predict for our customers, both internal and external, the true quality levels for all its products and services. To fairly compare the performance of products and services with differing complexities. To validate customer standards To determine whether a difference exists between long-term and short term process performance To determine whether the main project objective is to: Shift the average of the process Reduce the variability of the process, or both Shift the average and reduce variability To identify within Philips a common terminology to describe process and/or product performance. Definitions A Defect – Something that does not conform to a standard A Standard – An accepted customer requirement (Upper and Lower Specification Limits) or operational definition that we can measure against to determine whether a defect exists. An Opportunity for a Defect – The set of conditions in which – A customer standard exists There is a defined scale such, as ohms, inches, hours that can be measured. We are actively measuring against the standard Historical data around the standard is recorded A Unit of Product The item that is moving through the process in which work is being acted on it to add value to the customer Definitions DPO A measure of the probability of a de
