What’s your opinion about the effluence of e-mail? summary Researchers at Stanford Universitys SIQSS conducted a survey of Web users and arrived at a conclusion that the Internet could be the ultimate isolating technology that reduces our participation in communities. According to the conclusion, the author refutes the viewpoint which is rooted in distinct anti-tech bias by examples and her arguments. She mainly talks about “e-mail” which the researchers regarded as a socially inferior medium and testifies that e-mail can be the very antithesis of isolating. structure Part I (para.1-3): Researchers at Stanford University conducted a national survey of Web users and arrived at a conclusion that the Internet could be the ultimate isolating technology. Part II. (para.4-8): The author proposes that the researchers’ interpretation of the results is rooted in a subtle, but distinct anti-Web/anti-tech bias. structure Part Ⅲ.
