This is very important. Think about how many times we rush because of some perceived “emergency”. For example “the line is down”, “the customer is down”, “we are behind schedule” etc. Many industrial accidents happened because of rushing or taking a short cut. It is believed that the Bhopal India tragedy happened from both the company and the contractor rushing to perform a maintenance job. The BP oil spill in the gulf of Mexico is another example of what can go wrong when “rushing” to get a job done to increase profits. How much did their profits increase from rushing the gulf of Mexico job? Once we get people to stop, we then need them to look around. We need to help our employees to calibrate their eyeballs to recognize the hazards. At the end of this training there are some examples. We need to figure out what we need and who we need before we rush into a job or task. Pre-planning is key to staying safe. Ask the class for more ways to “manage” risks.
