Learning Experiences of Junior Nursing Students with a Pilot Problem-Based Learning Program.
Abstract
Problem-based learning (PBL) has been adopted as an innovative model of learning in nursing education for decades. The purpose of this study was to evaluate students’ learning experiences in Fundamental Nursing course adopting PBL at their 2nd year of nursing school. A total of 96 students answered a structured questionnaire before and after studying 4 PBL cases in a semester. The contents of questionnaire include items of self-directed learning, discussion skills and group cooperation. Qualitative feedbacks from students were also included in the questionnaire. Eight-five (88.5%) students completed the pre-and post tests. The results of the posttest showed a significant higher level in students’ perception on self-directed learning and group cooperation and higher satisfaction on both self and group performance. This study showed that PBL exerted positive outcome in students learning attitude and could be of reference for extended implementation of PBL in nursing education.
