                    英语专业四级作文与便条写作 主讲教师:鲁晓霞 作文训练 My View on Euthanasia    Euthanasia, or mercy killing, means allowing, or even causing, an easy and painless death for someone who suffers from an incurable illness. Different people have different attitudes toward it. Some think the practice of euthanasia can bring mental and physical release to an incurably sick patient and his family. Others are strongly opposed to it, thinking it is inhumane to end the life of a person. My view is that we should consider the specific situation a patient is in and make decisions accordingly.      The first situation is that if the patient is suffering from an incurable disease, but he is still conscious and rational enough to make a decision, we should show respect for his opinion. If he is not willing to have euthanasia, doctors and nurses should try everything they can to extend his life and relieve his pain.        The second situation is that if a patient cannot tolerate the pain and has no hope of recovering, and he wishes to die with dignity and peace instead of agony and degradation. In this case, euthanasia is the only satisfactory way out. So far no law has established the individual’s inherent right to die at will other than by suicide . And euthanasia has not been legalized yet. Modern medicine makes it possible to prolong the fact, if not the quality, of life; then, the society must solve the complicated legal, moral and religious problems that arise. I believe it is indignity to be kept alive with needles, tubes, bottled blood, and mechanical equipment. To remove the artificial devices is not ending a life, but a refusal to hold off death by using machinery. A person who is kept alive by machinery is not living; he is simply denied the right to die. Therefore, the patient is morally killed but not physically released. Chinese on-campus college students are legally allowed to get married before they complete their courses.
