Obviously, being able to understand English news is of great importance because we can acquire the latest information from all over the world, and English news can provide English learners with numerous listening materials which are rather idiomatical and can help improve English learners’ listening ability.?However, for most English learners, English news listening is their weakest link. There are several factors which make English news difficult for English learners to understand. First, English news may cover information from every field of our society, such as military, diplomacy, sports, entertainment and so on. Therefore, listeners may not understand the news without a large vocabulary and enough background knowledge. Second, the reporters and the interviewees may come from different countries and have different accents. Since most listeners get used to a certain accent, they may find it is difficult to understand the other accents. Third, English news are usually very fast and the sentences may be rather complex. As a result, most English learners are afraid of listening to English news.　Although English news is difficult to understand, it is inevitable that they have to listen to English news and improve listening ability, for it is required in many important examinations like TEM 4 and TEM 8.
