The topography is higher in the northwest area as lower in the southeast area. The mountainous area covers 62% of the Beijing municipality. The Xishan mountain from west meets the Jundushan mountain from north in Nankouguangou forming a bend. The altitude in plain area is around 20 to 60m while 1000 to 1500 m in mountainous area THE STATUS QUO OF THE PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY OF BEIJING MUNICIPALITY CLIMATE The climate in Beijing is warm and temperate zone semi humid continental monsoon climate with clear four seasons. It is rainy and hot in summer while cold and dry in winter. Average temperature in 2005 is 13.2℃. February the coldest with average of 2.9℃ and June the hottest with average of 27.9℃. Annual extreme highest temperature is 38.9℃ while lowest -11.5℃. The non frost period comprises 183 days. Annual rainfall is 410.7 mm and mainly in summer from may to august. THE STATUS QUO OF THE PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY OF BEIJING MUNICIPALITY WATER SYSTEM There are 5 water systems in Beijing: Juma river, Yongding river, Beiyun canal, Chaobai river and Li canal.
