ADDED Wiki’s provide users with a way to collaborate on certain topics and gather collective input. In SharePoint a wiki site can be created around a topic with multiple users providing content on the wiki. Blogs are a new component of SharePoint that are part of the MySite within the portal framework. Blogs provide users with a way to communicate to others in the organization. Other users can subscribe to the blog just as on the internet. * ADDED Another collaboration component that has been enhanced in SharePoint 2007 is the discussion board. Discussion boards now include the ability to be email enabled so that users can email the discussion board to create a post. Additionally users can subscribe to the RSS feed to stay current of the topic being covered on the discussion board. * ADDED The Project Tasks list type was added to SharePoint 2007. This list is designed around project management and provides a familiar Gantt view of project tasks. * ADDED Collaboration is one of the more common entry points for SharePoint in organizations and it is not uncommon for IT departments to deploy it in IT and then it spreads to other parts of the organization. One of the more common collaboration scenarios is around projects. Many organizations are utilizing SharePoint to bring project teams together to share documents and information in one location. Historically many organizations have used hierarchical folder conventions on a network file share to store documents related to a project. Using SharePoint as a tool for projects provides users with a single location to get project information including documents, tasks, schedules, contacts and more. A recommended best practice when implementing SharePoint for collaboration is to develop templates for identified collaboration scenarios (i.e. projects).
