Woodland a treed area differentiated from a forest. with sunlight penetrating between trees. Some types of woodland are essentially grasslands with shrubs and scattered trees. Where can we find woodland in Hong Kong today? The New Territories e.g. streams, mangroves Country park e.g. Lion Rock Country Park. Characteristics of woodland Density: dense Floor of woodland: dark Variety: many variety, e.g. Chinese Privet (山指甲), Waxy Leaf (黑面神), Coral Plant (爆仗竹) Rose Apple (蒲桃) etc. Height: always very short ,about 1-3meters, e.g. (Waxy Leaf) in wetland; some trees can be tall, about 9 meters, e.g. Rose Apple Roots: Some roots of the plants are short and thin, but the strong trees have strong and long roots Shape of leaves: many kinds of leaves, e.g. Rose Apple (蒲桃) about 20 cm long, oval-shaped and Portia Tree (恆春黃槿); the shape of its leaves look like an heart, wide piece.
