COURSE DESCRIPTION
INTERNATIONAL TRADE PRACTICE
Term: 2015-2016 II
Hours: 48 ( 3 hours a week/session, 16 weeks a term)
TEACHING PLAN
This module is delivered as follows: Lectures will cover the basic concepts and techniques applicable. Group discussions will be used to solve problems and analyze case studies / examples.
To complete the module successfully, attendance at all classes is advised. Students are also expected to undertake any required background reading or exercises and to actively participate in group work. If allocated to a group, students should remain with that group.
This module is designed to introduce to students the general procedure, customs and practice of international trade. It will also provide opportunities for students to master the necessary skills required in typical export operation. Contents covered by this subject include:
Introduction to general concepts in international trade
Trade terms
Pricing
Contracting: quality, quantity packaging
International cargo transportation
International cargo insurance
International payment
TEACHING OBJECTIVES
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
Explain relevant international trade concepts
Describe the major procedures involved in international trade
Understand and be familiar with relevant documents used in export
Understand and critically analyze various international trade issues and cases
Demonstrate sufficient capability in handling trade operation
MODULE ASSESSMENT
Assessment will comprise three components including group assignments, class participation and a final examination.
ITEM ASSESSMENT Assignment 30% Class Attendance Participation 10% Final Exam 60% Total 100%
Group assignments
Students of this module are required to form groups of 4 to 5. Groups are required to discuss module cases or questions after each chapter. The discussion results will be presented in a report typed in required format (A cover page should be attached on top of the report
