ABSTRACTObjective:TheaimofthestudyistoevaluatethetherapeuticeffectsoftheEx-PRESSin thetreatmentofglaucoma.Methods:Theprimaryopen-angleglaucomapatientswhohadEx-PRESSglaucomashuntimplantation(Ex-PRESS group,15cases23eyes）andwhohadtrabeculectomy(trabeculectomygroup,16cases26eyes)werecollectedinourhospital.Visualacuity(VA)、intraocularpressure(IOP)、postoperativecomplications、postoperativeanti-glaucomamedicationsandthesuccessfulrateofthetwogroupswereevaluated on1day、3day、1week、2week、1month、2month、3monthand6monthpostsurgeries.A20%reductioninIOPfromthepreoperativevalueorIOPbetween5to20mmHg weredefined asasuccesscase.ThecomplicatedglaucomatreatedwithEx-PRESSimplantation(18cases20 eyes）were enrolledinthisstudy,includingpigmentary,pseudoexfoliationsyndrome,neovascular,uveitic,pseudophaki,traumatic,congenitalandprevioustrabeculectomy. Visualacuity(VA)、intraocularpressure(IOP)、postoperativecomplications、postoperativeanti-glaucomamedicationsandthesuccessfulratewereevaluatedon1 day、3day、1week、2week、1month、2month、3monthand6monthpostsurgeries.A20%reductioninIOPfromthepreoperativevalueorIOPbetween5to20mmHg weredefined asasuccesscase.Results:IntheEx-PRESSgroup, VAat1day,3day,1weekand2weekpostsugerieswas significantly worsethanbaseline(p＜0.05）.Bymonth1，VAwasbacktobaseline(p＞0.05)andremainednonsignificantlychangedatsubsequentvisitsupto6months.Inthetrabeculectomygroup,VAremainedsignificantlyworsethanbaselineat1day,3day,1week,2weekand1monthpostsurgeries(p＜0.05).Bymonth2，VAwasnolongersignificantlydifferentfrombaseline(p＞0.05).VAwasnotstatisticallydifferentbetweenthetwogroupsatanytimepoint(p＞0.05).IOPwassignificantlyreducedfollowingsurgeryateachstudyvisit(p＜0.05)ineither Ex-PRESS group or trabeculectomy group. IOP was not statistically differentbetweenthetwogroupsateachstudyvisitaftersurgeries(p＞0.05).Therewerenodifferencesinsuccessfulratesbetweenthetwogroupsat6month.3eyesoftheEx-PRESSgrouppresentedwithcomplications(shallowanteriorchamber,tubeobstructionandtemporaryhighIOP).12eyesofthetrabe
