Solution:The E portion of the terms stand for exponential spacing, and the number is the number of logarithmic steps per decade (power of ten). Early in the 20th century, when electronics was still in the tube era, resistor and capacitor manufacturers adopted this system of standard component values. It is based on the tolerance of the part. If a manufacturer makes a component with a ± 10% tolerance, it makes sense to make the next component value 20% higher. In this way, component values do not overlap.
