Practical Skills and Teaching Methods Applied in Teaching
English to Children-A Case Study of Hseuh Lin Kindergarten

In this project, we want to observe that can practice teachers well utilize of
integrate theories and methods which they obtained from the course “Techniques and
Methods of Teaching English to Children” and are the pupils interested in what
practice teachers teach and also improving their English. Our subjects are 15
preschool students in Hseuh Lin and 27 practice teachers who took the course
“Techniques and Methods of Teaching English to Children” in AFL-5A in Ling Tung
college. The practice teachers learn theoretical applications from the course, and then
they go to Hseuh Lin Kindergarten for practicing teaching to the pupils for more than
two months. Finally, a performance for the pupils was held on December 20, 2003.
The performance and the questionnaires we made for them all show that practice
teachers do increase their teaching experience and the ability of class arrangement; the
children do learn and like learning from practice teachers, the can even play a drama
in English in the performance. This cooperation not only enriches the practice
teachers’ experience of teaching but also makes the children’s English abilities
become better. This cooperation between school and community is beneficial to both
sides.
