Richards, 1998:103 Internal reasons In order to feel more confident To learn the subject matter better To enable lessons to run more smoothly To anticipate problems before they happen External reasons To satisfy the expectations of the principal or supervisor To take into account the different backgrounds, interests, learning styles and abilities of the students in one’s class. To help the teacher think about the objectives, content, materials, sequencing, timing and activities and so as to meet the requirements of the curriculum To help a substitute teacher to take over a class with clear objectives, procedures and activities when the teacher cannot teach. Principles for good lesson planning Aim: realistic goals of a lesson.
