sysnoise——DirectBEM
Where are we? General Remarks / Recall (1) Basic idea of the Boundary Element Method (BEM): Express the physical phenomena in the interior of a volume V by suitable quantities on the surface S of the volume (i.e. on the boundary). Volume Integrals ? Boundary (Surface) Integrals Distinguish: - Direct BEM In acoustics, quantities at the surface are pressure and normal velocity. - Indirect BEM In acoustics, quantities at the surface are jump of pressure and jump of normal velocity. General Remarks / Recall (2) Three different boundary conditions can be applied at the surface: given pressure (Dirichlet boundary condition) given normal velocity (Neumann boundary condition) given admittance (Robin boundary condition) Note: If the pressure is prescribed, the normal velocity is not known. If the normal velocity is given, the pressure is not known. If admittance is applied, only the relation between pressure and velocity is known. Interior as well as exterior problems can be treated! Fundamental Solution (1) To be able to solve a given problem by integral equations, a so-called Fundamental Solution must be known. This is the analytical solution of the differential equation (here: the Helmholtz equation) in the case of a unit load (here: an acoustical point source) acting in a fullspace (here: in a free field). The Fundamental Solution (in 3D) is given by: X is an arbitrary field point, Y is the point where the source is applied. Fundamental Solution (2) Note that the following equation must hold: where ? (X) is the Dirac Function defined by Direct Boundary Element Method - Boundary Integral Equation (BIE) - BIE for Exterior Problems - BIE for Interior Problems - Numerical Implementation Boundary Integral Equation (BIE) (1) The BIE can be derived from Greens Third Identity which relates the surface integral over S to the volume integral over V (bounded by S), for any two functions ? and ? (sufficiently smooth and non-singular in V). where
