(2006, 3) We could regard t his as simply a throwaway ‘blurb’ or ‘tag-line’ (it is reproduced as such on t he book’s back cover). Whateve r the status of this comment it raises some key questions regarding the nature of Lacanian psychoanalysis. When Žižek suggests the creation of a ‘new wave of Lacanian paranioa’ do we read this as it is presumably intended – as an appeal to paranoia as met hod, the rigour of reason at its maddest, such as we find in Dali’s ‘paranoiac-critical met hod’? Or, do we see it as suggesting t he ‘madness’ of Lacanian psychoanalysis itself, which passes from self-induced psychosis to psychosis itself? A lso, what is this discernment t hat will lead us to see ‘Lacanian themes everywhe re’? Is this the sign that such themes actually ex ist in the world or only as the sign of the critic’s own skill at reading?
