In computer, storage devices typically refer to mass storage devices that are capable of storing large quantity of data, even after electrical power to the compter is turn off. Making or downloading unauthorized copies of software is breaking the law,no matter how many copies or people are involved. Computer networks Today , networks are everywhere and network technology is evolving rapidly. Just when you think you have dial-up under control, along comes cable access and Wi-Fi. Just as you get comfortable with your school’s campus-wide network, everyone is issued notebook computer that use some sort of wirless connections. Evolution of Computer Networks Computer networks emerged in the late 1960s. They have inherited many useful properties form their predecessors, namely, older and more widely adopted telephone networks. This is not surprising, since both computers and telephones are universal instruments of communications. however, computer networks have brought something new into the world of communications, namely, the practically inexhaustible store of information accumulated by human civilization during the several thousand years of its existence.This became especially noticeable in the mid-1990s, when the rapid growth of the Internet clearly demonstrated that free and anonymous access to information and instant, written communications were highly valued by most individuals. Communication Basics The data transmitted can be voice, text, video,images,sound,or a combination of them. For transmitting the data, there are two types of signals: analog and digital. Analog signals: a continuous electrical signal in the form of a wave called a carrier wave. Telephones, radios, and televisionsthe older forms of communicationswere designed to work with an analog signal. Digital signals: uses on/off electrical pulses in discrete ,rather than a continuous wave. This two-state signal represents the two-state binary language of 0 and 1 that computer use.
