ABSTRACTAlong with the fast development of information technology, traditional library service has been far from being able to meet peoples needs of knowledge, particularly in information services and knowledge services. Implement of Digital Library enables us to get knowledge more rapidly and accuratly. Compared with the developed countries,Chinas library is lagged far away in both digital and service， which drives people toresearch and develop the library information service systems. As one of the most strict and complicated database communication aggrements, Z39.50 Aggrement has gained increasingly attention in our country.This paper focuses on the topic of Z39.50 protocol in the application of digital library research system. First of all, briefly the paper reviews the development of libraries at home and abroad and the current situation of Z39.50 protocol in research and application, then it studies the Z39.50 protocol service mechanism, agreement norms and agreements process. And then discusses the MARC, XML standard format; then using the above agreements and technology, raised the frame mode basing on the Z39.50 protocol standards Distributed Retrieval System, and studies the elements which will affect the efficiency of search. Basing on it, optimization of research is done; At last, it introduces the profile of ADLib project, the practical application of ADLib project is given basing on the standard distributed Z39.50 protocol.In this paper, we will accomplish these works:① Discussed the application of the Z39.50 protocol on the status quo at home and abroad, point out Z39.50 application of the existing problems;② Analysis Distributed retrieval technology related theory and technology.Distributed model of technology provides a theoretical and technical support;③ Study based on Z39.50 Distributed Retrieval service structure, design based on Z39.50 Distributed Retrieval Model structure and the factors affecting the efficiency of retrieval discussion on
