() 2007, 32( 3) J Cent South Univ (M ed Sci) 359 ¹ # REV IEW # # # Genetic polymorphisms of human B-adrenergic receptor genes and their association with obesity LIU Zhao-q ian, MO W ei, HUANG Q iong, ZHOU Hong-hao (Institut eof ClinicalP harm acology, X iangya School of M edicine, Central South University, Changsha 10078, China) Abstract: The prevalent rates of overw eight and obesity are steadily increasing all over the w orld. Previous stud ies of some cand idate genes have indicated that most of the genes are associatedw ith obesity in human ad ipose tissue. A s much as 0% of the variations in bodymass could be attributed to genetic difference. The B-adrenergic receptor ( B-AR) plays am ajor role in the regulation of energy balance in humans. A high sympathetic nervous sys- tem activity has been show n to be associated w ith obesity and is believed to have pathogenetic relevance. Several common single nucleotide polymorphisms ( SNPs) includ ing Gly3 9A rg in B-AR, Gln27Glu in B-AR, and 1 2 Trp64A rg in B -AR in humans could alter receptor function and these variations ofB-AR sw ere shown to have certain 3 associationw ith obesity. H erew e summ arize the genetic polymorphisms of human B-ARs and their potential mi pacts to obesity. Key words: B-adrenergic receptor; single nucleotide polymorph ism;
