AbstractChitosan,exhibitingagoodfilmformingproperty,isapotentialbiomassenvironmentalfriendlypackagingmaterialresource.Inthispaper,deacetylationdegree(DD)85%and95%chitosanareselectedasmaterial,andsorbitolwasactedasplasticizer,andaceticacidwasplayedaroleforchitosansolution.pH,conductivityandrheologicalpropertiesofdifferentchitosansolutionwerefirstlyanalyzed.Basedontheseinvestigations,andthendifferentkindsofchitosanfilmswerepreparedbyfilmcastingmethod,andthestructureofchitosanfilmswerecharacterized.Atlast,physicochemical,mechanicalandthermalpropertiesofdifferentchitosanfilmsweredetermined.Themainresultswereshowedasfollow:Theresultsofchitosanfilmformingsolutionpropertiesanalyzedshowed:(1)chitosanpresentedlittleinfluenceonpHandconductivityinthefilmformingsolutionsystem.Withtheconcentrationchangeofsorbitol,aceticacidandtime,thepHandconductivityvariedinaway.Basedonthechangingregularitiesofthechitosan-sorbitol-aceticacidblendsolutionsystem,sorbitolandaceticacidmightbecross-linkingwithchitosanmolecules,andthenthestable,homogeneousandstickysolutionwereformed.(2)Differentkindsoffilm-formingsolutionallpresentedapseudoplasticfluid,andtheadditionofsorbitoldidnotmodifytherheologicalbehaviorofchitosansolution.Withtheincreaseofshearrate,apparentviscositydecreasedfirstandthengraduallykeptconstant.Theshearstressincreasedfirst,andthengraduallyremainednearlyconstant.Theapparentviscosityandshearstressofdeacetylationdegree(DD)85%chitosansolutionwerehigherthanthoseofcorrespondingdeacetylationdegree(DD)95%chitosansolution.Fortwokindsofdeacetylationdegree(DD)chitosansolution,apparentviscosityandshearstressofsolutionwithsorbitolwerehigherthanthoseofsolutionwithoutsorbitol.Thestructuralinvestigationofchitosanpowderandtheirfilmspresented:(1)thesurfaceandcross-sectionofchitosanfilmswereamplifiedatdifferentmultiplestoobservethemicrostructure.Wefoundtheformingfilmswerehomogenousandcontinuous.Itsuggestedthatsorbitolwasagoodcrosslinkingagent,andcouldgeneratethedesiredmiscibilitywithbothtypesofchitos
