Questions Why do people dine out a lot these days? What are the purposes of your dining out with your clients in restaurants? What are the key elements that make your dining with your clients successful? Analysis of cases What will you say if you want to have dinner with someone? case1. A: Do you have some time tomorrow? B:Yes, I do. A: How about having lunch with me? B: Good idea. Notes: How about…? /What about…? 1.I’d like to invite you and your wife to dinner. 2. I’d like you to be my guest. 3.May I have the honour of your presence at the dinner? 4.We’d be delighted if you could attend our dinner. 5. Would you do me the pleasure of attending our dinner? case2: A: If you are free, how about lunch? B: When did you have in mind? A: I was thinking about Thursday. B: That will be fine with me. Notes: “When did you have in mind?“ 和 “I was thinking about Thursday.” 都用了过去时,但并非一定表示过去的意思。尤其是以 “I was thinking about…”, “ I wondered…”等开头的句子表示探求或请求,一种礼貌和尊敬,谈的是现在和将来。 例如:不知你今晚是否有空? “ I wondered if you were free this evening?” case 3: A: I’m calling to see if you would like to have lunch with me tomorrow? B: I’m sorry. but this week isn’t very convenient for me. A: Perhaps, we can make it later. B: That would be better. Notes: I’m calling to see if…: 我想知道…所以给您打电话。 Make it: 即:fix the time. 例如:Shall we make it at eight? Other expressions: 1.Is it convenient for you to meet at eight o’clock? 2. Will eight o’clock be ok/all right? 3. Do you mind if I call you at eight o’clock? case4: A: I need to change the time we meet for lunch. B: What time would be good for you? A: I’ ll be about half an hour late. B: Good, I will see you there at 12:30. Notes: 比较 “need to”, “want to和 would like to” “need to”: 需要。很多做生意的人都喜欢用它来造句。而 “want to”则给听者唐突,不礼貌的感觉。而且 “need to”比 “would like to”更能表现坚定的心情或决定。比较中性,并清楚的表达说话者的
