Chairman’s Report - December 2008 2008 has been quite a year for Black Lion Swimming Club – the list of achievements that the club swimmers have attained is quite staggering when put together on one page; so in no particular order… Kent Championships 49 swimmers attended (10 more than last year, 28% of total membership) 303 events swum (107 more than last year) 131 individual medals (88 more than last year) including 42 gold 9 relay medals (6 more than last year) including two gold. Total medal haul up 304% on last year. Boys team 2nd overall (6th last year) Girls team 5th overall (5th last year) Overall Position 4th by a whisker (5th last year) Kent Awards – Boys team for second place Sophie Tills – the Keighley Mayes trophy for endeavour Alexandra Adams – Kent Junior swimmer of the year! Regional Championships 17 swimmers attended, 8 medals were won, including 2 golds National Championships 7 swimmers qualified including the boys relay team- all present able to compete acquitted themselves well. Kent Secondary Schools 6 schools champions were from BLSC, and Tom Foley set a new Kent Schools record. 14 top three finishes were recorded by BLSC swimmers. 13 swimmers represented Kent in the inter-county gala vs. Surrey which Kent won convincingly, with Tom selected as Kent Captain. Kent Junior Schools A good representation of swimmers attended this event, with many successes, leading to an equally impressive selection for the Kent vs. Surrey Gala, which Kent narrowly lost BLSC swimmers represented Kent at Galas in Southampton Sheffield, and three swimmers represented Kent Surry combined at the National Schools Championships at Enfield National Speedo League The ‘A’ team, after being sadly relegated from the Premier division last year, are currently top of Division 1 (East) after 2 of the three Galas, with a good chance of gaining re-promotion. The ‘B’ team are currently 10th after 2 rounds and should maintain or improve on that with a good result at Gala 3 Kent J
