Partner Search for a Pilot Project in favour of Youth Participation Untraditional Ways of Involving Young People in Local Democracy Four of the City Districts in the Goteborg City Centre: Centrum, Harlanda, Linnéstaden and Ogryte, are preparing a proposal for a pilot project under the recent Call for Proposals EAC/43/03 under the Community Youth Programme, in favour of youth participation. We are planning a two-year project with a maximum EU grant of 100.000 euro and the deadline for applications is August 11, 2003. Goteborg Youth Venture In Goteborg we have a Youth Participation project called “Goteborg Youth Venture” which started in 2001 and which has focused mainly on creating alternative leisure-time activities for young people in the age of 16-20 years old. The catchwords of the Youth Venture are democracy and participation and the aim is to create leisure-time activities based on young peoples active influence and energy. The ideas, desires and opinions of the young shall be the guiding principles in the Youth Venture. Local associations, like sport associations and parents associations, together with the upper secondary schools, Centres for Youth Sexual Health and other local actors are important collaborators of the Youth Venture. Activities of the Youth Venture are events, local meeting places for young people, café, disco, ICT, music, rehearsal halls etc. Working for the Youth Venture in the City Districts are Youth Workers and so called local “Door Openers”. The” Door Openers” are there to support young people who wants to realize a project idea and guides them through the bureaucratic process. They offer support and advice, e.g. on how to plan a project, who to contact, where to apply for funding etc. An Internet Youth Portal has also been created “Gecko.nu”, providing information on issues relevant to young people, easy access information as well as in-depth reportages, link library, calendar of events etc. The editorial staff consist of young people.
