Palm Beach County Diversity Venture Fund Guidelines and Application – February 2004 Background The Palm Beach County Diversity Venture Fund was launched by United Way of Palm Beach County, Children’s Services Council, JM Family Enterprises, Palm Healthcare Foundation, the Sun-Sentinel and Quantum Foundation. A volunteer advisory council oversees the Fund. In September 2003 an inaugural round of grants were awarded to 20 community organizations. A new cycle of funding is now open. The goals and application process for this funding cycle are described on the following pages. The goals to be met through this grant program are: Increase resources to new and emerging as well as established organizations to improve services in our diverse communities. Increase capacity of organizations serving diverse communities through training and technical assistance. Application and Review Process The Advisory Council plans to provide up to 30 organizations with one-time grants, typically ranging from $500 to $5,000. Applicants are encouraged to attend optional question-and-answer workshops, scheduled for Tuesday March 2 from 3 pm to 5 pm, and Thursday March 18 from 5 pm to 7 pm. The workshops will take place at United Way, 2600 Quantum Blvd. in Boynton Beach. If needed, volunteers will be available to help with language interpretation. Once applications are received (by the Friday April 9 deadline), the Advisory Council will review the requests and make funding decisions. As part of this review, we may request additional information or conduct a site visit or interview. We plan to announce grant decisions by late May 2004. Awards will be released in total at that time. The United Way board of directors, upon the recommendation of the Advisory Council, has final say in all matters related to this grant process.
